Recently trained contractor Glenn Morris of Dragon Sealants sent us these photos from a small domestic job they recently did repairing this roof using the Hyperdesmo system.
The roof was originally fitted with a fibreglass system that had failed after 15 years. It was leaking and causing all sorts of head aches for the home owner over a series of weeks. When they went to inspect it, the fibreglass was found to have split and deteriorated really badly. All the rain they had around that time really hadn’t helped either.
The first thing to do was jet wash the moss and grime off it to expose the cracking, to sand it back and then fill the cracks with Hyperseal. After all that time there were some very prominent cracks that needed securing before waterproofing the area. It’s also important to apply sealant around any roof detailing and furniture (in this case there was none) as well as at any other change of direction such as onto upstands.
Given that this was a very small job, the primer used was Geodesmo 50. This is our same day primer – once it is applied it only needs a few hours to set. That makes it ideal in this case because it’s ready to receive the top coat on the same day. There’s no need to go back the following day to finish the job.
Once the primer has set the Hyperdesmo HAA top coat can be applied. HAA is also very fast curing. It is shower resistant in 15 minutes and cures fully within 4 hours.
The Geodesmo 50 primer and Hyperdesmo HAA combination are the best option for this type of job as they cure quickly. This particular job took well under a day and will now keep that roof waterproof for upwards of 20 years!
