The new stands at the Sokol Racetrack in Kazakhstan are part of an ambitious upgrading of the facilities to attract more prestigious events in the near future, including MotoGP. The venue is currently used for drag racing, kart racing and drifting competitions.
The stands needed a system that was easy to apply but would also be able to withstand a massive amount of foot traffic. The complex is expected to accommodate up to 105,000 people so the membrane needs to be tough! That’s why the waterproofing of the new grandstands at the track was done using the Hyperdesmo system. The primer used on the concrete was Aquasmart DUR and Hyperseal Expert 150 was applied to all of the joints and the changes of direction. Once the surface preparation was done, Hyperdesmo was applied to the whole of the stands. Once this had cured a final, thin coating of Hyperdesmo ADY-E was applied to harden the surface and make it anti-slip for people to walk on.
